MindBuilder

Support

How can we help?

MindBuilder ships with a full user guide built in - but if something is wrong, or you cannot find an answer, write to us and a person will reply.

Email: paul@expertdivide.co.uk
We aim to answer within two working days. Telling us your device, your OS version and the app version (MindBuilder ▸ About) gets you a faster answer.

Before you write

The in-app guide covers the whole app in sixteen chapters, and it is searchable. Open it from Help ▸ MindBuilder User Guide on the Mac, or More ▸ Help & Settings ▸ User Guide on iPad.

Common questions

Will my existing maps open?
Yes. MindBuilder reads and writes .itmz files directly. Open one the way you open any document - there is no import step, and no separate copy is made.
Will saving a map in MindBuilder damage it?
No. The file round-trips losslessly: anything MindBuilder has no feature for is preserved untouched and written back out as it came in.
Where are my documents stored?
Wherever you put them. Keep them locally, or in iCloud Drive to sync between your Mac and iPad through your own Apple Account. MindBuilder runs no servers and never uploads your maps.
I forgot the password on an encrypted map.
It cannot be recovered - not by us and not by anyone. Password-protected maps are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM, and the key is derived from the password alone. There is no back door and no reset.
Two-finger pan and pinch-to-zoom are not working.
On a device, use two fingers on the canvas. On a Mac, pinch or two-finger scroll on the trackpad. In the iOS Simulator, hold ⌥ and drag to pinch - the Simulator cannot produce a parallel two-finger drag at all, so panning that way is unavailable there.
Can I automate MindBuilder?
Yes - it supports x-callback-url, so other apps and shortcuts can drive it.
Which systems are supported?
macOS 14 or later, and iPadOS 17 or later.

Reporting a bug

The more of this you can tell us, the faster it gets fixed:

  • What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
  • Your device and OS version, and the MindBuilder version
  • Whether it happens with a new map as well as an existing one
  • A copy of the map, if you are able to share it

Send it to paul@expertdivide.co.uk. Please do not send a map containing anything confidential - a small map that reproduces the problem is more useful anyway.

Feature requests

Genuinely welcome, and several of the things in the app now arrived that way. Tell us what you are trying to do rather than the control you think you need - it usually leads somewhere better.
